Chemistry Fun

In Chemistry we have been talking about... dun dun dun... EQUILIBRIUM! As amazing as that sounds, we have spent so many days on it so far. My teacher loves to reiterate himself, even if it is to only say "The Action is the Action, it is the Action... which is... the action!!!" (almost literally)

Well today we talked about more equilibrium, this time Ionizations.

Ionization of a Weak Acid:
Example from Class:

HCN (aq) + H20 (l) === H3O+ (aq) + CN- (aq)

So did you know that HCN, or Hydrogen Cyanide, is used for gas in the death chambers? No? I didn't until my Chem Professor said so. He said, and I quote, "When they drop the tablet and you are dying the last thing to run through your mind will be this equation."

Huh.

HCN is also used for rat poison. The HCN is breathed into your lungs and then attaches to your hemoglobin and you die!

So this is what I learn in Chemistry 2.
