I am home!! This is the week of Thanksgiving break!! Yippy!
Today Danette was singing Christmas music. (I mention her often... she should feel honored) Well after Dinner Thursday (Thanksgiving) it is a socially acceptable time to start belting out those Christmas songs. People already have trees up, lights strung, and cocoa making in the kitchen.
Cocoa, cocoa is a good thing. It tastes yummy, is cheaper than coffee, is chocolate, is warm, and has less caffeine than coffee. As for the trees and lights... well that is crazy... But then my family is apart of that insane Christmas rush.
Thanksgiving is a nationally celebrated holiday. It is marked on the calendar and schools all over the nation are given the day off. So why then do we want to skip it so quickly? Why do we put up our Halloween decorations and the week after put up our Christmas ones?
Yes I understand that there are not that many decorations one can put up for Thanksgiving. Aren't the leave enough though? The sign of the changing seasons, the picture of love from God showing us he has power over the universe and it's progression.
As it is Thanksgiving is an important holiday, but we degrade it. Christmas is important, don't get me wrong, I love the holiday, but Thanksgiving comes before it and deserves its own attention.
Thanksgiving: (n) A day of Thanks, appreciation, and blessings for the things that have been given to us by God.
-On Thanksgiving families the United States over get together. Like Christmas families ignore the inner turmoil or animosities they have towards each other to gather over one thing: food. What else can bring such a wide variety of people together in semi-peace? Apparently not what Thanksgiving was based on. Families gather around a large table, maybe two (one for kids and one for adults) and they gorge on things like:
-Cranberry Sauce
-Green Bean Casserole
-Corn
-Potatoes
-Salad
-Sweet Potatoes
-Pie
-Sides like Olives and Pickles, Deviled Eggs
and of course
-Turkey
But is this really what Thanksgiving was supposed to be about? Were we really supposed to gather around and eat crud-loads of food and then feel slightly guilty afterward because there are so many who go without? The short answer?
No.
Thanksgiving is a day of praise. A day of thanking the good Lord for what he has done for us. Thanking him for what he has given us, which includes our families; no matter how weird, demented or crazy they may be. Everyone has someone they trust, whether it is a mother, father, friend, grandparent, godparent, nephew, or cousin; whoever they are they are family and on Thanksgiving we tell God how thankful we are for them. Now thanks is not limited to this day. In fact, Thanks is to be given everyday, all the time.
I shall come off my tangent about thanksgiving and just have a little note about my way back home.
So the girl I rode with, she drives crazy fast. =D
The speed limit on the freeway is like 75? She was going something like 90... haha So on the way back she was very hungry... She had not eaten all day and probably not the day before. So she was singing to the music about her hunger. Mostly about Taco's since we were headed to Taco Bell. So once she said "tacooooooooooo" which made both of us think of Nacho Libre...
Yay Nacho, one of the funny stupid movies I like.
I am off to bed.
Goodnight,
Carollela <3
