May 31st - Update sans Pictures

June 5th is coming very quickly. In fact it is in.... 5 days. Why is this special? The Transit of Venus. What is the Tranist of Venus you may ask? Let me tell you, that way you will know what I have been helping prepare for!

The Transit Of Venus
A special event that require you to know the order of the inner planets. There are 8 planets, four of them are called inner planets. They are smaller and rocky, meaning they have a defined surface. (We live on a rocky planet, Earth.) The order of these four planets, from the sun, are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars.

Mercury and Venus are between us and the Sun. A tranist is similar to an eclipse. The planet Venus will pass between the Earth and the Sun, making it visible on the disc of the Sun. However you need special protection to see this event. Why? Because looking at the sun can blind you, not to forget if you looked through a telescope you would burn your eyes and then be blind. OW.

So we use special filters that block 99% of the light from the Sun. By doing so we can look at the sun and see Venus! Alas, this even does not happen every year. Why? Because Venus revolves around the sun in a different disc than Earth. Because of this the next time this even will be able to be seen will be in.... 2117!!

So get out to a place with safe viewing in a hurry! This seriously is a once in a lifetime event!
