Movie 1: InkHeart

Movie 1/50
Day One: May 12th

As per my goal, for Otter, I am watching 50 movies I have never seen in the next 100 days of summer. To start off I am watching InkHeart.

So the movie is a good one... however some of the acting was sub par. I believe that the book that it is based on would be an amazing one. The whole idea of reading characters out of a book is a splendid one. Oh, to have the ability to imagine a book so clearly that the characters literally come alive.

Some of the things I did not like: the "action"/"fighting" scenes. They were not well acted and could have been better. Many of the lines were not presented as if the actors believed them, and with skilled and practiced actors one would believe the lines would be presented in a clearer more realistic fashion.

Another thing that was not acted well was the inner suspension of the daughter having her father's powers. Having the Author, Fenoglio, just spout out "Oh she has inherited her father's talent" ruins any and all slow progression of revealing. I have not read the book, so I do not know exactly how Funke wrote that part, but it was probably more suspenseful than, "hey look!"

Overall with such well known actors like:
Brendan Fraser - "The Mummy" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth"
Paul Bettany - "A Knight's Tale"
and
Jim Broadbent - "Moulin Rouge"

The movie is set up for a good family one. With emphasis on family and even on the importance of reading the movie, while being cheesy, is a good one.

MPAA Rating: PG ( fantasy adventure action, some scary moments and brief language )

My rating:
7/10 - Could use better acting but the plot is amazing. Execution could be better...

(though every movie with Brendan Fraser is always a little corny... haha)
